I am a middle aged woman, but I know stuff about computer games systems that twenty year old males don't know. Since I was the one who had to find the money to purchase gaming equipment for my son, I know how much it cost and the dirty tricks games companies such as Sony pulled in order to try to get more money out of me through my son.
Sure, many males of my son's age treat me as if I am a fossil, and couldn't possibly know anything about technology. They speak more slowly to me about gaming. I understand this: there is a disconnect in the gaming world between a lot of the users (pre-teens and teenagers) and the purchasers (parents). I, in turn, look at them as gullible because they have bought into the notion of the game fitting the machine, because this sets up a consumer lock-in for buying games. Anyone who really knows me - and several people who are mere acquaintances - know that I am a level 70 night elf druid, and the only reason I am not higher is because my laptop can't cope with downloading WoW. I know how to play games. However, I also understand the gaming industry, and I will choose what I play. I choose to boycott Sony and play pc games instead.
So when i read that the Interview is being attacked, my thought is that Sony is a big corporation with a history of screwing over their customers, and it is just as likely that the North Korea and the Christmas day hacking incidents were publicity stunts. Interestingly today we hear Egypt is banning the film "Exodus". Spot the motherfucking bandwagon.
